about

Song: This was written 10 years ago while on tour with Lo & The Magnetics. It's inspired by a small event involving a written note - "Lo The Liar" - on Lorraine's tour van. Written along with five other songs - one of which will be included on the BCamp version of the Lo & The Magnetics LP, A Part.
This is a loose take on Mack The Knife starring Lo as the returning trouble maker (that she is).

Recording - Most of the first tracks recorded for this album started as an acoustic guitar track and Lo's voice. What got this roaring off was the late night tracking session that we did with Mike G. on drums. I picked him up from a Beatdown set at Lee's palace and dragged him out to record until 3 or 4 in the morning. For each song, Mike drastically moved the drums around, sometimes we tracked 2 kits (separately, of course), we shifted microphones, often going for a minimal approach. For Lo The Liar - Mike favoured the floor toms (taken from two kits) and shaker, adding only the bowed cymbal afterwards. The rest of the overdubs fell into place quite easily.

lyrics

Lo The Liar
(M. Girio)

Board up the windows and lock all your doors
Turn every key until your fingers are sore
Hide the children underground
Coz Lo The Liar is back in town

Your call’s disconnected, the phone line is dead
Your voice falls silent coz there’s a noise in your head
And bells that ring will make that sound
When Lo The Liar’s back in town

Everyone’s sitting out
So scared to be seen
Once that they’ve heard my words
They’ll never come clean

Don’t be so precious to the things you might hear
And put on your brave face for the things that you will fear
Like a sailor scared to drown
Coz Lo The Liar’s back in town

Purveyors of justice will call out your names
Spreading gossip like gas to the flame
The queen returning for her crown
Soon enough it all burns down
When Lo The Liar’s back in town
