Written for the (ska) musical, London Town. An idea that Greg Milka Crowe ambitiously spearheaded, the play was originally written by Cory Wojcik using songs composed by Greg and I as inspiration. The second run of the play was a workshop in which new songs were written and old ones reworked to better match the plot and characters. Safe As Houses was one of the newer entries, originally created as a duet, and now in reverse it was inspired by Cory's script.
Greg and I have discussed recording all of these songs, but we haven't come up with a solution of how to pull it off easily. Still working on that.
lyrics
SAFE AS HOUSES
Like a cosmonaut
I’m floating in outer space
drifting away from you
reaching for the stars
just pinpricks in curtain cloth
and I’m still standing here
don’t turn away from me no
now that I’ve got you back in my life
remember when it felt so right
we were safe as houses
once we were safe as houses
were we anything more than a star or two
blinking in the dark
millions of miles from each other
why do we bother?
don’t turn away from me now
now that I’ve got you back in my life
at least we still know how to fight
we were safe as houses
once we were safe as houses
lost in the wilderness
in shadow and guilty dress
hidden away from you
and if you look around
maybe you’ll find me here
coz I’m not going anywhere

Girio - vocals, guitars, bass guitar, Yamaha organ, vibraphone, bass drum and tambourine.
The only thing that stops me from comparing this to Toots & The Maytals is the perfection and precision of the Delegators’ musicianship and Janet’s vocals. marc_ian
